Frequently Asked Questions

What other therapeutic strategies are used?

Along with CBT I also use, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Gottman Couples Counselling. But depending on the presenting issue I will use my professional judgement regarding the type of therapy used and adjust as needed throughout our work together, based on the needs and goals of clients.

How will I know that you are the right therapist for me?

I always so "go with your gut" on this one!  But some key indicators that I am a fit for you are:

  • Do I feel same with my therapist?

  • Can I be open and honest with my therapist?

  • Can I trust my therapist?

  • Do I feel seen and heard by me therapist?

What should I expect in my first session?

Initial sessions are 60-75 minutes and provide an opportunity for us to get to know one another and decide if it will be a good “fit”. We will also discuss logistics (like scheduling) and go over some paperwork together. The majority of our first session will be spent talking about your hopes and goals for therapy, as well as going over some of your history, and sharing about some of your current struggles.

Are you covered by my health benefits?

After paying for services, you will be provided with a receipt which you can then submit to your extended health benefits provider for reimbursement.  It is your responsibility to verify with your insurance provider prior to your appointment that your benefits will cover counselling provided by a Registered Social Worker.  Some companies also offer additional health/wellness accounts.

60-minute sessions are $175.00, payment is collected at the beginning of each session.

What are the Limits of Confidentiality?

There are 4 circumstances in which I am obligated to share your information without first obtaining your consent:

  1. If you disclose that you have a serious intent to harm yourself or someone else, we are obligated to call someone to take you to safety. We are also obligated to contact the person you intend to harm to let them know of your intentions so they can stay safe.

  2. If you disclose information that indicates a child needs protection, we must contact the Children’s Aid Society (or applicable child protection agency).

  3. If you disclose that another registered healthcare provider has abused you, we have a duty to report this to their relevant professional college.

  4. If notes from our sessions are subpoenaed by the court, we are obligated to provide them to the court, and they will become part of the court’s record.

*If any of these circumstances arise, I will do everything I can to inform you and work through this with you to maintain our therapeutic relationship.
